“Glafca” is the official mascot of the European Petanque Championship
Ancient Greek wisdom meets the “chess of the open-air courts”
The Organising Committee of the European Petanque Championship is delighted to present the official mascot of this year’s event. “Glafca” is a wise owl that bridges the heritage of ancient Greece with the demanding mental qualities of modern precision sport.
The choice of the owl — the timeless symbol of the goddess Athena — is no coincidence. Petanque is a sport built on complete concentration, strategic thinking and composure. With her distinctive eyes, Glafca embodies the sharp vision and precision required for the perfect throw towards the cochonnet.
Petanque is often described as the chess of open-air spaces. Glafca reminds athletes and spectators that wisdom and strategy are what distinguish great champions, while the olive branch strengthens the connection with ancient Greece.
Glafca will be present at both the Opening Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony, while the olive branch will also feature prominently in the event’s official range of commemorative gifts.
